But finally, let us get to the task at hand - FilmJams' first review, Back to the Future!
First of all, let me start by saying that I have an A+-to-F grading scale, which some of you may already know from reading the introduction post. However, I have not mentioned that it is very hard for a movie to get either above an A- or below a C-. I have a pretty standard scale, but it's tough on the good movies and easy on the bad movies. Back to the Future is simply one of the best films I have ever watched. If I had to rank it, I would probably put it as my sixth-favorite all time. It is just amazing.
Back to the Future was released in the United States on July 3, 1985. It was directed by Robert Zemeckis, produced by Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy, had music composed by Alan Silvestri, and starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, and Lea Thompson. It is heralded as one of the all-time greats of cinema, and I cannot agree with that statement more.
Usually, time-travel movies are very confusing (looking at you, Back to the Future Part II), but this movie made time travel an extremely fun experience for me. It was hilariously funny, the cast was great, and, I have to say, Steven Spielberg did it again. The fact that this movie made me think was one of the best things about it, believe it or not. After I watched this movie, my parents and I talked for nearly an hour about all the weird things time travel could do.
The other great thing about this film was the cast and their performances. I cannot applaud these guys enough. They were spot on the whole entire movie. Michael J. Fox, I felt, did a near-perfect job as Marty McFly, and he seemed to deliver just the right punchline at just the right time. Christopher Lloyd's "Great Scott!" will always be a part of movie lore. Lea Thompson and Crispin Glover hit the target as Lorraine and George. This whole cast was just amazing, what else can I say?
The only problems I have with this film are the time-travel tidbits that really don't need to be driven into detail, as well as the fact that it's strange and confusing as to why George and Lorraine didn't recognize their son when he grew up and realize he looked exactly the same as the guy they met 30 years ago.
I have to say, Back to the Future is a timeless classic that can be watched over and over again without ever getting boring.
Final Grade: A
Back to the Future is one of the very few movies to get an A in my book. I would definitely recommend watching it if you haven't already. If you want to suggest a movie, video game or TV show for me to review, leave a comment below.
My next review will be Back to the Future Part II. It will be posted sometime this week. That's all from me. Stay tuned for more information.
